For one of the Refinery plant , in the Sulphur recovery unit, there are pumps for wet H2S service (sour service) and have traces of amine also. The data sheet asks for NACE compliance MR0103. Similarly it is indicated that the material is to be suitable for HIC. The MOC of the pump is SS316 casting ( A8 as per API 610). My query here is , for a stainless steel material , if the hardness is under control as per NACE requirement , whether HIC will be a problem? Should the material to be tested for HIC? Thanks to clarify.

make sure Chloride level not exceed from NACE criteria
If chloride level below the NACE criteria, you should tested the material(ask NACE certified for your material to pump vendor)

HIC is not a concerned for CRA’s, NACE certification is sufficient. However if is harsh sour environment then you may qualify materials by SSC testing.
