What kind of consideration need to be taken care while selecting the Material as ss316 as buried tubing ?

Soil corrosivity, water table and composition is very important for Type 316 underground application. Higher chlorides and low resistivity may result in localized corrosion. In this case cathodic protection should be considered to prevent acclerated corrosion

    Dear matco,

Can you suggest above what value of chlorides (ppm) and soil resistivity, cathodic protection is required?

Is any type of coating sufficient to prevent galvanic corrosion? or cathodic protection is must for above case?

You need to determine if the soil is reducing. Reducing soil with chloride levels above 100 ppm and soil resistivity below 3000 ohm-cm may require cathodic protection/coating.

I think for 316SS you don't need to applied CP. But make sure Cl level in your soil(IMHO, Cl level in soil should be less) and another solve, you can used coating.
